Ken Wilson

What do you know about the reasons for emigration from Scotland?

some, clearances to the 60s brain drain

Have any of your ancestors or members of your family emigrated? If so, where to? And do you know anything about their story overseas?

my uncle went to Vancouver and became the skipper of the Vancouver to Victoria Island ferry

What do you think is the legacy of the Scots abroad?

Vast and not fully appreciated nor documented. I am a freelance writer and did a great piece on the Scots who travelled to Hollywood goldrush in the 1920s. It’s a fascinating story. Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy’s most famous stooges were Scottish.

Ending with something light-hearted: what did you think when first looking at the image called ‘Piper Kerr and Emperor penguin’?

something v Scottish about this humour, reminds me of those films by Bill Forsyth
