What do you know about the reasons for emigration from Scotland?

I have traced my Scottish lineage back to the late 1500s. I am supposedly descended from royalty – which would explain my attitude ;)

If you live overseas yourself, where do you live and can you say a few words about your personal Scottish diaspora story?

I live in the heartland of America – in Kansas. There is a small town called McPherson which is not far from my hometown (Salina). It has a Scottish festival every year but I will be honest and tell you I’ve never been. I am such a multiethnic hodgepodge, I have had to be quite deliberate in what I’ve learned about each of my family’s branches. It is hard to be educated and self aware when you literally have 9 (known!) ethnicities and 3 races swimming in your gene pool. Suffice it to say, I am quite proud of my Scottish blood and claim it loudly!

Have any of your ancestors or members of your family emigrated? If so, where to? And do you know anything about their story overseas?

I am still researching this!

What do you think is the legacy of the Scots abroad?

Um….. Scots are bad ass. Simple and plain. And their legacy can be felt in the fierce determination and rebelliousness that is America.

Ending with something light-hearted: what did you think when first looking at the image called ‘Piper Kerr and Emperor penguin’?

I’m thinking Scots are EVERYWHERE! :)
